Geochemic

Geochemic is a mining-focused environmental geochemistry testing lab based in the UNESCO World Heritage town of Blaenavon, located within the historic mining district and industrial landscape of the South Wales Coalfield.

I created an easy to maintain brand identity and website for the team to be able to take on and .

Services: Logo and identity, signage, website design, printed and digital design collateral, and brand guidelines.

The main thing I noticed while looking around the lab was the proliferation of this shade of bright blue. From machinery to gloves, this blue was dotted around the lab from various companies. As blue was one of the colours of the old logo, I decided to take that and make it the central colour.

The location and historical connection to Blaenavon was an important aspect for the team as the link from rock testing to the historic mining town provided a meaningful connection. I retained a simplified version of the iconic Big Pit to serve as part of their logo.

Inside the lab I used the simple application for some impactful signage inside the impressive atrium.

I arranged a photoshoot in and around the lab to give the team a library of imagery to use across their website and design collateral. See what I mean about all that blue? I think that’s what they call serendipity.

To give Geochemic a straighforward design system that they could implement themselves I put together their website, logo, and all design bits and bobs with the superb IBM Plex type family.
